Where to Visit a Chocolate Farm in Costa Rica
Staying at La Anita Ranch was one of the highlights of my trip for many reasons. It was peaceful, serene, absolutely gorgeous, and …. IT WAS A WORKING CHOCOLATE FARM. That last item for me is a game changer because, duh, I love chocolate. And the chocolate produced here is some of the best I’ve ever had. As a person who has tasted chocolate all throughout the world, I basically consider myself an expert on this subject.
La Anita rainforest ranch
The property itself is a nature lover’s dream. It is located in between a trio of volcanoes, and they provide the perfect backdrop for natural jungle surroundings. It’s possible to come up for just a day and experience one of the day tours that they offer, but staying in one of the 10 cabins onsite provide an ideal opportunity to really experience all that this place has to offer.

Relaxing on the front porch in a hammock for hours on end was what I considered to be a completely acceptable and exciting activity, but should you decide to leave your porch, you’ll have access to rainforest trails, horseback rides, or cooling off in a nearby stream. It’s also a fantastic location to be based at to experience some of the areas most interesting activities, including hiking and relaxing in hot springs in the Rincón de la Vieja National Park, taking a zip-line tour through the rainforest canopy on the Miravalles Volcano, horseback rides to hidden waterfalls, a visit to local artisans, and more!

One thing you absolutely must do though if you do get the opportunity to visit La Anita Rainforest Ranch, is take part in the Chocolate Tour. As mentioned above, the chocolate that is produced here is absolutely delicious! But getting the opportunity to see the entire process from start to finish provides you with the unique experience of discovering the magic behind the sweet flavor of chocolate.

This tour is incredibly informative, but also such a wonderful time spent with the owners Ana and Pablo, who have such an incredible heart and passion for what they do.
